I had the honor of having Carolina and her husband Valter come to my studio in March of 2010. The purpose of their visit was to teach a class; not just any class, but Carolina’s first time teaching in the U.S. after her new book on Grottesca techniques had come out. We coupled her class with one from Pierre Finkelstein and spent the next six days in Middletwon, CT with 20 plus students. This was the first time I had met Carolina and Valter in person. Up to that point, all of our communication had been through email or with Pierre as a go-between. Needless to say, the class went off without a hitch and Carolina gained a new fan in me. She was a delight to be around and had so much charisma when it came to her art form. Her knowledge and eagerness to share it inspired the entire room of students to create incredible pieces of their own. I had the honor of seeing her work in person with vibrant colors and cool brushstrokes. I was also able to flip through her book while simultaneously looking at her originals on the wall and both were overwhelmingly stunning. This book is one of imagination, not only with the usage of color but of design as well. Page after page of genius work allow you to get a true idea of Carolina’s talents.
This description of Grottesca Techniques says it all:

You were so ahead of the curve being the first to have them teach in the U.S. in your studio!! I still correspond with Carolina and her book is essential in the study of grottesca.

It is one of my favorite books, and after having met Carolina and Walter in Rome, and studied with her at Pats’, they are a couple of my favorite Artists and now friends. What you will learn from Carolina is a special gift from her. I have enjoyed learning this style of painting , and have been at it
ever since!
