Recently Designers have been asking me to replicate wallpaper patterns for their clients. For various reasons they chose to have me stencil a pattern on the wall, either because the wallpaper was a vintage paper and too fragile or because the color wasn’t quite right for the client. I like this trend! I love stencils, I love to cut them, and I love to buy them…I love just having them… Sometimes there is a gap between what we can do as decorative painters and what designers think we can do so wanted to make up some samples to show the versatility of some simple graphic patterns. I chose Royal Design Studios Large Hollywood Squares, Large Moorish Trellis and the Hearst Castle collection Casablanca Trellis (Hearst Castle!.). Royal Design Studio always has so many gorgeous stencils from current and trendy to the classic designs .My stencils arrived fast and with suggestions and tips on how to use the stencils. I chose those because they can be used so many ways depending on the
choice of finish and color. The Moorish trellis and Casablanca trellis can be uses in a traditional home, with a tone on tone color, as well as a contemporary look with white over a bright color (I want to do white over orange somewhere ..please! ) Or for a more exotic look a metallic over a jewel tone…maybe champagne over teal … or white over cream…or white over pale gray ..or.. well I could go on.
The large Hollywood Squares is another design that is versatile, it could go from a simple clean contemporary ,or more tropical depending on colors. I chose the Large Hollywood squares in a bathroom that was already painted a warm gray, I chose a lighter gray for a small accent wall , It was a fast update, I just loved it and so did the home owner. My only suggestion would be if one side of the stencil could be cut closer to the design to make matching ceilings easier, but that is easy enough to do myself. For the Casablanca trellis I used it to update a thrift shop table. Sand ,prime paint, stencil, seal and voila.. it was so easy and so stinkin cute!..I think I am going to stencil some fabric next…or a dresser.. .or a mirror…
