I just returned from Venice and am always amazed at how artisans accomplish their task of painting in such a challenging environment….
There are just under 400 bridges in Venice to maneuver your supplies to the job site…
All by foot; of course, as there are no cars in Venice!
There is always the issue of getting future jobs….
This guy papered his neighborhood well!
And don’t even get into weather! This guy is working high above the ground on the Grande Canal…can we say “humid”?
Navigation of the city is an artform in itself…at least there are water buses to help schlep heavy materials to the job site.
But these logistical nightmares have been tackled for centuries in Venice to create the beauty you see when there.
It is something we all deal with on a daily basis….and we do it because the beauty is worth it!
Being a “blogger”(artstheanswer) and an artist, I am constantly needing sources for art related topics or precise pictures to accompany my articles or present an idea to a client. Through endless hit and miss searches on line, I have collected many e-files for future blog posts and upcoming projects. Artisphere will make this easier for you through this column and help you to amass an amazing collection of blogs and other sources for technical information and photo files!

love this, Theresa! And it put things in perspective and put me in my place, since only this morning I was grumbling and cursing about the piece of furniture that seemed too big and heavy to transport through the garden to my studio… I’m just glad it was delivered — by car — to my front doorstep.

That is funny Annabel! I am always on the lookout for painters when in Europe and like to see how they handle the daily logistics of getting supplies to the jobsite.

I was really intrigued by the incredible scaffolding set ups on the outsides of some of the big domes when I was there
Talk about exposed!

I just returned from Venice myself and I was also completely amazed at the painting. It certainly makes my daily struggles with projects seem pretty minor!
